Finnish Road Administration Environmental
Policy and Action Plan 2001-2005
Traffic
forms one of the most important environmental loads in Finland, especially in
regard of community noise and emissions to air. Road keeping, road construction
and maintenance are only responsible for a minor part of the environmental
impacts of road transport. But developing road management can serve reducing
road transport environmental loads and costs. The essential factor for the
development of environmental aspects is the development of environmental
consciousness and attitudes.
The Road Administration environmental policy and
action plan is based on the 1996 Finnish Road Administration Environmental
policy and the demands on road management defined in other policies and plans.
The Road Administration acts and develops its activities in accordance with the
principles of sustainable development. The Road Administration Management group
adopted the policy and action plan on April 23, 2001.
